You don't want to accept that you are being attacked by barbarians who have strong incentives to manipulate the discourse of the press and the social media. The big difference with 1917 is that today the barbarians can rely on that manipulation to gain not a majority of voters but enough support in the press, the social media, and the academy to change the discourse.
You don't like to call your enemies barbarians. I assume you will say that IS nasty political rhetoric, and yes, it IS because the barbarians are not inviting their enemies to exchange ideas and socialize. They want their enemies to disappear, preferably physically. They don't rely directly on violence --like previous barbarians used to do for centuries-- because today, if their enemies' leaders wanted, small armies could easily defeat them. Unfortunately, we are seeing too many cowards leading the opposition to the barbarians (and too many false intellectuals trying to persuade us that we are nasty).
You may think that my comment is wrong, very wrong. Well, if you were a member of a declining political party like the D-Party in your country, you'd be thinking about a new strategy aimed first at taking power again ASAP and once in power, to change the Constitution to make it harder for the opposition to win again or for your Party to be defeated. A typical error is to form a coalition with smaller parties and factions that can be instrumental to win the next election but it will make it difficult to govern and most importantly to win future elections. The D-Party has erred by forming a coalition with Radical Lefties --just take note of what has been going on in the 5 months. You may think that Radical Lefties are a small minority but you are underestimating both their number and especially their intensity (meaning the high price that many of them are willing to pay to gain any share of power --yes, they are trying to build their lives around the pieces of power they can get from their commitment and loyalty to "their cause", that is, to grab and enjoy power).

You are mistaken about Fox News. It has a number of interesting leftish commentators.
