I have to wonder if Grieve Chelwa changed names after deciding to get into grievance studies, or if the parents chose it and it is evidence of nominative determinism.

I strongly disagree with Holcombe's comment. Today, there are too many academic economists and they try hard to find the "niche" work they want to do. Just read Emily Oster's new post

I'm very glad that academic economists who know nothing about inflation don't write about inflation. Indeed, I hope Tyler Cowen stopped parroting about inflation (and other things he knows nothing about).

What is a "group-based agency"? If "groups" have agency, perhaps all organizations, including governmental organizations, have agency and self-interest. At least these organizations have more in common among their member than the groups being considered in these articles, which are based upon the usual race, sex, and what you do in your bedroom categories.

These categories tell us almost nothing about the individual members of the group and we have the problem of overlapping distribution. If you tell me an individual is of race X, what do I know about him/her? I know nothing. If you tell me an individual has an IQ of 85, I know a lot more about that individual. If you tell me an individual has a good work ethic and cultural values, I know far more than the color of his/her skin. These are meaningless statistical groups that are just used to create benefits for the PR experts claiming to represent the group.

I noticed that "cultural values" aren't included, yet when we go to some "black" friends or family gatherings and note that they have identical cultural values with great stress on education and being productive in society that we have and it is those cultural values that have made them successful.

All the social science seem to have become disconnected from reality and entered magical religious thinking.

Has shame become completely unknown in the increasingly unreal world of academia? Does no one on the inside feel the urge to stand up and yell to their colleagues: “People, we are becoming a laughing stock!”? Then again, maybe that would be a cancelable offense.

The "Stratification" issue: Agree. No redeeming social value. Not wrong enough to criticize.

No inflation articles. That could be just lag.
