The FAIR weekly roundup last week had a lot of anti-Progressive links. Two that I wanted to note for future reference:
assuming that 2019 had a similar number of police interactions as 2018, 0.00002 percent of police interactions resulted in the death of unarmed black suspects. One is too many, of course, but it is worth remembering that, statistically, in a country of 328 million people with more than 60 million police interactions per year, the sample size is incredibly large. And with such a vast sample size, extremely unlikely events are more likely to occur, even if it is only 0.00002 percent of the time. The notion that young black men are being systematically hunted is simply untrue. And it’s incredibly damaging for black youth to grow up believing that it is.
It seems likely to me that Black Lives Matter has increased the propensity of young black men to engage in confrontational behavior with police, and in the process made black lives worse.
Daniel Buck and James Furey write,
Few parents of school-age children would recognize the name Lucy Calkins, but her English Language Arts curriculum, Units of Study, is used in thousands of classrooms across the United States. Calkins’s curriculum is “built on critical theories,” including critical race theory (CRT).
If your goal were to perpetuate bad race relations in this country going forward, this is how you would do it.
In general, I don’t like to write posts that harp on what I see as the bad aspects of the other side. Only when there is a data point that I want to recall.
Sorry, Arnold. You say you don't like to write this sort of post. I know well you don't like that because for a long time you have avoided writing about the many people who have been destroying your country. But never it's too late. You should join the forces trying to stop them. The war is not about culture, it's about power. Yes, rent-seekers are babies in comparison with power-seekers because sooner or later the latter will resort to violence to get what they want (as you can already observe in your country). Unfortunately, the barbarians know they can count on too many servants to publicize their lies. I suggest you start writing about how the barbarians rely on spreading fear of the virus and climate change to mobilize fake intellectuals and reporters to persuade ordinary people.
"The notion that young black men are being systematically hunted is simply untrue." And it so untrue in fact that essentially no one believes it.
What IS true is that there are many things that we could do to reduce the number of policy killings of unarmed civilians like focus the time and attention of armed officers on preventing and solving violent crimes, not enforcing traffic laws (beyond photograph-and -cite) and responding to public nuisance complaints.
