I have written it before and will again- the LLMs will be valuable tools to smart and resourceful people, and probably near useless for everyone else. Expect the gradient between productive people and non-productive people to steepen greatly.

Yes on creative help for the smart folk, but prolly even more helpful to the low IQ folk willing to ask their friendly ai assistant “what should I do now, next step”.

Looking at all people nationwide or worldwide, i agree with your last sentence. Within a discipline I'm sure the results will be more mixed.

There was a study of a call center or similar that found inexperienced workers gained more from the AI assistance they were provided. My son had a BS in civil engineering and very little programming experience when he went back to school for a CS masters. He still doesn't know many languages and uses AI to write first drafts. It helps him immensely with syntax in unfamiliar languages.
