The West treats Islam as a religion, a set of private beliefs, rituals, and moral teachings that can be accommodated within the liberal nation-state much like Christianity, Judaism, or Buddhism. This framework is fundamentally false.
Islam functions as a state. Not a state in the narrow Westphalian sense of a territorially bounded sovereign entity with a capital, army, and diplomatic corps recognized by the United Nations. It is a transnational state, a borderless political community with its own population, constitution, expansionist logic, and mechanisms of governance and loyalty.
The actor France has identified is the Muslim Brotherhood and the political-Islamist ecosystem surrounding it. The method is entryism: the gradual penetration of schools, associations, religious institutions, charities, municipalities, political parties, and administrative structures. The objective described by French officials is the cultivation of communities in which Islamist norms gain authority while republican principles progressively retreat.
He warns that the same thing could happen here.
The old line that you can vote yourself into socialism but you’ve got to shoot your way out is very relevant here. Allow these people political power, and they will eat away at your democratic and cultural institutions until there is nothing left but the corruption they’ve installed, and those institutions collapse into themselves.
…They’ve turned it [Cuba] into a madhouse. Neighbor turns on neighbor. Every foreigner is mobbed and scammed. People live in filth, conditioned to accept what the revolution gives them — which is misery. Initiative is punished, and the supposed classless society now manifests itself in two tiers of people — those with relatives in the United States or elsewhere who remit money to them to pay for basic necessities in what private shops the communists allow, and those without who stand in line at the state stores.
…there is indeed a forever war. It isn’t ours; it’s Iran’s. Since 1979, that regime has done everything it could to plunge itself into open conflict with the world’s largest superpower because the people in charge of Iran since their revolution believe that if they can start enough trouble, a 1,200-year-old man will climb up out of a well and perfect the planet.
One in twenty people in Canada are immigrants from just one year in the 2020s.
Around a quarter of Cubans have left in the last five years.
The Indian population in Lithuania has grown six-fold since 2020.
So many have arrived in neighbouring Latvia that cricket is the fastest growing sport.
In Malta, foreign nationals comprised just 3 per cent of the population in 2005, but 35 per cent today.
These are just a few of the data points he offers.
in theory it would be beneficial if companies were allowed to recruit high-skilled workers from overseas to fill labour shortages. This is what the previous government thought they were implementing with their visa sponsorship system, which has instead became a way for UK-based employers to allow the settlement of compatriots.
…Even groups linked to the Iranian regime are able to give out visas, while an Islamic bookshops selling anti-Semitic texts have been granted the right to bring in ‘skilled’ migrants. But who could say what great economic benefit that brings?

The Wrong Side of History is one of the best substacks around (present company excepted, of course). Everyone should check out Ed West. He's superb - a great writer and incisive analyst. His book Tory Boy is a great read as well.
