Book Discussion October 24

arnoldkling.substack.com

How relevant is David Hackett Fischer’s Albion’s Seed for explaining today’s culture war in the U.S.? Note that Richard Hanania recently wrote,

I think a good theory needs to do two main things. First, it has to explain things that are happening globally by pointing to factors that are operating across borders; otherwise we wouldn’t see the same trends everywhere we look. Second, it needs to explain why this polarization appears to be particularly bad in the United States, hopefully being able to isolate variables that exist here and not in other nations.

Hanania’s essay will also be included in the discussion. Obviously, when I try to use Fischer to explain the culture war, I can only hope to explain what is going on in the U.S. It does not explain the global divide.

Our discussion will be at 8 PM New York time on Monday night, October 24.

The link for the discussion is below the paywall.
